Akampumuza Precious, PhD
Environment and Climate Change Specialist
Akampumuza Precious is an environmental specialist and researcher, currently working with Japan Weather Association (JWA) in the Overseas Business Section. Her research interests include climate change, gender, health, food security, and other topics related to sustainable development. She holds a PhD in Sustainability Science from the Graduate Program in Sustainability Science, Global Leadership Initiative (GPSS-GLI) under the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo. She is a holder of a Masters degree in Sustainability Science from the same university, and a Bachelor’s degree in Food Processing and Technology from Kyambogo University. Her empirical research on the socio-economic effects of climate change and climate variability in Uganda was published in the Journal of Development Studies while more studies are under review in international peer reviewed journals. Precious is a recipient of several research-based awards including the Green Talent Award for High Potentials in Sustainable Development” awarded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany and the “Best Paper Award” at the 2017 International Conference on Sustainable Development at Columbia University, New York. Precious has carried out short term work assignments with World Health Organization (WHO) Rwanda, Japan Institute of Global Health (JIGH), United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) in Tokyo, Japan and the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Tokyo, Japan. Precious has also initiated and coordinated projects in East Africa including the air quality monitoring project in Rwanda. She is passionate about evidence-based policy processes as a joint effort by academics, policy makers and private sector players.
