Dr. Ggombe Kasim Munyegera is an Economist, researcher and Co-Founder of Centre for Development Policy. He holds a PhD and MA in Development Economics obtained from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Japan, and a BA in Economics obtained from Makerere University, Uganda. He has conducted policy and academic research covering various topics including financial sector development, gender and women empowerment, agriculture and rural development, migration, trade, poverty and vulnerability, growth and structural transformation and climate change. Prior to founding MRC, he worked as Country Economist in the Rwanda country office of the International Growth Center (IGC) focusing on policy research in the fields of trade, agriculture, firm productivity and private sector development. He has published his research in leading journals in the field of development economics, including World Development and the Review of Development Economics. Kasim is a peer reviewer with World Development, the Journal of Development Studies, Land Use Policy, Financial Innovation, Review of Development Economics, Development Southern Africa and other international peer reviewed journals. He has provided consultancy services to government institutions in East Africa as well as international organizations like UNDP, UNCDF, OECD, ILO, UNU-WIDER, IGC, Ecorys, Japan Weather Association (JWA), among others. Besides his research and consultancy work, Kasim provides training services in policy analysis, applied research methods, econometrics and statistics, proposal writing and data analysis with applications to STATA, EViews, R, SPSS and Microsoft Excel. His passion is to contribute to evidence-based policy processes in Africa.
